Only had two days to hunt bear in Colorado this year due to work requirements. Had some trail cam pics of some bigger bears and had my fingers crossed for one of them. I bought some heavier ammo (180grn) and zeroed the 30-06 in at 200yds. I was ready for opening day! Saw three bears the first day and none of them where the big ones. Day two came along and I knew this was my last day. 12:00 came along and I heard a stick crack in the brush behind me. Turned my head and the bear stood on a cottonwood log at about 20yds. I couldn't be picky anymore. Obviously it only took one shot at that range and the bear piled up. This was my first Colorado bear and did it on public land. The work was about to begin. Spent the rest of the afternoon getting it out and it was 96 degrees when I got back to the truck. IT WAS HOT. The biologist estimated the age to be a little over 7 years. Mature bear in the freezer!
